An FFL 03, or Type 03 FFL, or Curio and Relics (C&R) license is a special license for gun collectors. Unlike most FFL’s which are for dealers, gunsmiths, manufacturers and importers, the Type 03 FFL is intended to make gun collecting easy.

With a Type 03 FFL, you can have guns classified as curios and relics shipped directly to you, without having to go through a regular FFL dealer for the transfer paperwork and background check. This lets you build a collection of old guns with less hassle and paperwork, and sometimes even buy them direct from wholesalers and importers …

• You’re 21 years or more of age;
• You’re not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition;
• You have not willfully violated the GCA [Gun Control Act] or its regulations;
• You have not willfully failed to disclose material information or willfully made false statements

• You have premises [which in most cases can be your home] for conducting business or collecting.
