Q: Do I need a business store front to obtain a Federal Firearms License?

A: No. In fact, I have my FFL License and Class 3 FFL at my home address.

Q: What is the benefit of having an FFL License?

A: You can buy firearms directly from the manufacturers and wholesalers at dealer's cost.  No more FFL transfer fees ever again!  Make extra money!  Spending money that the wife does not know about is a beautiful thing!

Q: How much does an FFL cost?

A: The initial application fee is $200, which includes the first 3 years (Yes, the ATF will take a credit card on the application). The FFL cost is $90 every 3 years afterwards, or $30 per year. This is nothing compared to the amount of money you can save by owning your FFL license.  ATF will issue you a full refund if your application is rejected.

Q: If I apply from my home address, are any modification required to my home by ATF?

A: No. You just need to sign a form that you will keep guns away from minors and non-FFL license holders.  A closet with a keyed lock will be fine.

Q: Can I purchase firearms, ammo, and other sporting goods supplies at wholesale costs after I get my FFL?

A: Yes, wholesalers will sell to you tax-free the above items after you have an FFL License.

Q: Is it hard to get a home based Federal Firearms License (FFL)?

A: Depends.  If you have the insider knowledge of how to fill out the applications and which forms to fill out in order to get a quick and easy approval for your residence or business address. Q: How many different types of FFL Licenses are there and does your FFL License Guide cover all of them?

Q: Most common mistake made by people that apply for an FFL License on their own without your help?

Q: I have a state concealed carry permit, will that speed up the FFL License approval process?

A: No, a conceal carry permit is a state issued permit, this is a Federal License.

Q: Will the ATF really want to meet with me after reviewing my application?

A: Yes and this meeting is just as important as the FFL application itself. Not an interview, truly a meeting face to face at your address for the FFL License. ATF needs to ensure that you understand the federal laws governing firearms sales. This is not a difficult meeting, as long as you know what to expect. We help ensure you get approved by telling you exactly what to expect and how to answer their questions.

Q: Do I need to be a certified gunsmith to have a home based FFL License?

A: No. In fact, some websites try to sell you things you don’t need. I am a home based FFL License holder and I am no gunsmith.

Q: How long will the entire process take?

A: This will vary based on your location and how close you are to a regional ATF office; your ATF inspector's workload, etc. To be safe, allow a couple of months for the entire process. Fastest I have seen is maybe six weeks and longest would be several months.

Q: What is the advantage of having a Class 3 FFL license?

A: You can buy, sell, and transfer all NFA items like; machine guns, silencers, explosives, and other destructive devices. You can buy NFA items without having to pay the $200 tax stamp for each item. You can save thousands of dollars that other people have to pay.  As a firearms dealer, you will make a lot more selling silencers than just firearms alone.

Q: Is it hard to get a Class 3 FFL license?

A: NO. After you have your FFL license, it is easy to get your Class III license, because you won’t have to do another background check or have another meeting with ATF. There are a few forms we’ll need to fill out, but we provide all these forms and explain how to complete them. Once you get your Federal Firearms License, it only takes 2 to 3 weeks to get approved.

Q: If I decide not to renew my Class 3 FFL license, will I have to pay the $200 tax stamp per NFA item to keep them?

Q: What are the legal requirements to get a Federal Firearms License FFL?

A: The Gun Control Act (18 U.S.C. sec. 923(d)) empowers the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms the ability to regulate businesses engaging in firearms sales and service. You can legally apply for a Federal Firearms License (FFL) per ATF if the applicant:

Is 21 years or more of age; Is not prohibited from shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition; Has not willfully violated the GCA (Gun Control Act) or its regulations;
Has not willfully failed to disclose material information or willfully made false statements concerning material facts in connection with his application; Has premises (which includes your home) for conducting business; and the applicant certifies that:

• the business to be conducted under the license is not prohibited by State or local law in the place where the licensed premise is located;
• within 30 days after the application is approved the business will comply with the requirements of State and local law applicable to the conduct of the business;
• the business will not be conducted under the license until the requirements of State and local law applicable to the business have been met;
• the applicant has sent or delivered a form to the chief law enforcement officer where the premises are located notifying the officer that the applicant intends to apply for a license.
• secure gun storage or safety devices will be available at any place in which firearms are sold under the license to persons who are not licensees ("secure gun storage or safety" defined in 18 U.S.C. 921 (a) (34)
