Different FFL Location Requirements

Home FFL Location Requirements

All of the ATF forms are the same whether you’re getting your license from your home or from a commercial location. You won’t have to re-learn the process when going between home-based and commercial addresses for your FFL. In this article, learn all about FFL Location requirements.

As has been publicized in most of our online content, FFL123 was created to help members obtain their home-based FFL licenses. We continue to do just that on a daily basis with great success, and it accounts for the vast majority of our members. However, we sometimes get asked if this process will also work for those who happen to have a non-residential address operating out of a more traditional commercial space.

Does It Work for Both?

The answer is yes! The very same process that is laid out with such care in the guides for home-based FFLs is also used to set up an FFL license in a commercial location. After purchasing our guides, you’ll get the same advice and aid in obtaining your federal firearms license as those who are getting one from their home. All of the ATF forms are the same whether you’re getting your license from your home or from a commercial location.

This is also good to know if your business expands and you decide to go from a home office to a separate location. You won’t have to re-learn the process when going between home-based and commercial addresses for your FFL.

Shipping

When it comes to locations, another question we see often is about where to have firearms shipped. Many members want to know if they can have the location of the license at one address and a different mailing address for shipping. Again, the answer is yes. You can have a physical address where the business actually is and any transactions must take place and a separate mailing address where any mail and shipments can be sent.

Some people prefer to do things this way to keep from having firearms deliveries made to their home address. It could just be a personal preference, regulations from a homeowners association, etc. Whatever the reason, this is perfectly legal to do, it’s completely normal, and we cover how to do this in our guides.

Nationwide Benefits

If business is really good, you might find yourself operating in multiple states. Or, perhaps you live very close to state lines and you’re operating in separate states. Whatever the case, we’ve got you covered because we know exactly how to handle these situations.

Our founder Brandon Maddox’s other business, Silencer Central, has multiple locations in multiple states, which means multiple FFL licenses with multiple physical addresses. However, the mailing address for all of these licenses is his corporate headquarters in South Dakota. This setup keeps everything organized with the multiple licenses and locations and ensures a smooth operating procedure. Although this situation very likely does not reflect your reasoning for wanting the separate addresses, it’s just one example of why that feature can be useful.

    Thank you!
I have a 12X20 building that I use as my shop and I have a 10 yr old and 9 yr old and I keep them out because that’s where I keep my tools.
They aren’t allowed in unless I am working on something and I let them help so it would be excellent to use it as my storage and office.
