Previously, a person did not need a dealer’s license to conduct “infrequent” transfers of firearms. “Infrequent” used to be defined as less than six handgun transactions per calendar year, and for all other firearms, an indefinite number of transactions that were “occasional and without regularity.” The new law expands …

Can we predict gun politics - FFL123

Can We Predict Gun Politics?

Should politics play a part in gun ownership rights? Most of us on the pro-gun side would say no. Unfortunately, whether we like it or not, firearm legislation is a hot issue in American politics and media.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris made gun control a big part of their election platform in 2020. That came as no surprise given his almost 50 years of anti-gun politics, and her anti-gun agenda in California’s politics. What else came as no surprise is that they’re continuing to push a rabidly anti-gun agenda during their administration. How much they’ll be …

Positive Role of FFL

People want peace of mind right now more than anything else. Few things provide that better than a firearm. There were more than 8 million first-time gun buyers last year, with more than 21 million background checks performed. FFL dealers help provide that peace of mind by selling legal firearms to those that want them.

A recent story from USA Today noted that “the proportion of protests at which people are armed doubled from February to June, and more are planned for the rest of the summer.

In full disclosure, they cite a study performed by the admittedly anti-gun group, Everytown for …

FFL License – Types of Firearms Sales

You’ve heard us mention before that one big perk of having an FFL is being able to turn your gun hobby into a side hustle. Although the go-to image may be of a “big box” gun store, that is certainly not the case for the large majority of FFLs in the United States. You’re probably planning on using your home as your place of business, and that’s perfectly fine. The ATF doesn’t expect you to run out and open up a gun store on Main Street right away – if ever. Therefore, we’re going …

Afganistan and impact on firearms industry

The US government left behind millions of firearms in Afghanistan that they deem far too dangerous for their own civilians to possess. FFL dealers need to stand united and make their voices heard that further regulation of the US arms industry is hypocritical at best given what has just happened in Afghanistan.

Everything from helicopters and armored vehicles to missiles and M4 rifles were left behind in Afghanistan when the US pulled out of the country. Hundreds of millions of dollars of equipment that was initially intended to combat the Taliban are now being snagged faster and easier than a …

The virtual office is a great idea because the cost is low and you can meet customers at a non-residential location.

In order for the ATF to approve your FFL application, you’ll need to have an address listed for where the license is officially located. Home based FFLs are very popular, as technology and the internet has changed everything. However, for some people, it just …

Image of Firearms Background Check - FFL123

The National Shoot Sports Foundation (NSSF) and McKeon & Associates released study findings that concluded that far fewer Americans think that universal background checks are necessary at gun shows than was originally reported. The report on universal background check written by the NSSF goes on to point out the sharp contrast between their findings and what has been commonly reported by the media. The NSSF/McKeon study showed that 40 percent of Americans surveyed believe that gun show universal background checks are needed, which is dramatically different from the 90 percent statistic many media sources like to use.

FFL Requirements – FLL At Flea Markets & Gun Shows

It’s important to know where, when, and how you can sell firearms once you’ve obtained your FFL license at a flea markets. As you likely know, the ATF considers gun shows to be an extension of your licensed premises. This means that you can make sales and conduct transfers in the same way that you would at your regularly licensed location (home, shop, etc.) as long as the gun show is in the same state where you are licensed. However, the ATF makes a …
